IRS offers free tax preparation through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. 

 United Way of Greater Kansas City is a partner in the KC Metro Tax Coalition. Their resource line – 211 – is scheduling on behalf of our tax sites. They have not opened the schedule yet, but expect to begin making appointments the beginning of Feb. You can call 816-474-5112. Updates will be posted to their website.

Earned Income Tax Credit 

Seniors and people who are disabled can receive help applying for the Circuit Breaker Deduction from the St Louis Area Agency on Aging. This deduction is accessible if your property taxes exceed a certain percentage of your income and may apply to renters as well. 

Option 2: Tax-Aide

AARP's program Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer tax prep service. It is free and open to all, though their focus is on those who are 50 or older, with low-to-moderate incomes. Volunteers are IRS-certified.
